LEO FLYNN Obituary

FLYNN, Leo Jr. 71, of Erie PA, formerly of Everett, passed away quietly after a long illness on Thursday, July 7, 2016 in Erie Pennsylvania. Born in Everett on August 9, 1944, he was the son of the late Leo and Betty (Nicholls) Flynn both of whom graduated from Everett High. His father, Leo M. Flynn, was a graduate of Everett High School, class of 1940 and Harvard College, 1946. Leo Flynn, Jr. graduated from Everett High School in 1962 and lettered in both football and hockey. One of his proudest achievements and a memory he shared with many, was the fact that he was a member of the Everett High school football team of 1961 that was undefeated. His fondest memories always came back to his time living in Everett and being part of the Everett tradition in sports. He spoke with animation about his experiences on the gridiron playing with the great football players from the early '60's that included, the great Bobby Leo, Richie Green, Jim "Tank" Agnetta, and Fred Foresteire. As a young boy he enjoyed going to Harvard football games to watch his father and finally to realize his own dream to play on the gridiron himself at Everett High School. Mr. Flynn loved sports and his memory of the 1961 trip to play football in Miami always remained up front in his story telling. Over many years he developed an interest in the success of "E" Club of Everett and interest in getting the news and updates about the Club. He always looked forward to receiving his program from the awards dinners. After graduating from Everett High Mr. Flynn went to prep school in Maine and attended the University of New Hampshire. Most of his professional life was spent in the Philadelphia area where he became a specialist in the high risk insurance field. As part of his insurance consulting work, he traveled extensively and retired in 2006 living in New Jersey and Erie Pennsylvania for several years. Mr. Flynn is survived by his three daughters, Nancy, Deirdre and Alyson, by his brother and sister-in-law Peter and Laura Flynn of Saugus, and a brother John Flynn. Peter, please accept my heartfelt condolences on Leo's passing. Your Grand Mother, Alice, proudly announced your Brother's, and your many accomplishments to her friends & cronies on a regular basis. I felt as though I knew him better than I actually did. I do remember "Little Leo" sitting in my kitchen, in the 1959-1960 timeframe, donning his Immaculate Conception plumed helmet, white bucks, and band uniform. I am so sorry. If there is a local memorial service please let me know. Chris Kelley
