RUTH RECKMAN Obituary

RECKMAN, Ruth Jane Age 92, of Marshfield, MA, formerly of Cincinnati, OH, Bethesda MD, and Syosset NY, died Monday February 25, 2013 in Marshfield. She was the devoted wife of the late William C. Reckman. Loving mother of Barbara Gimperling of Crofton, MD, the late William T. Reckman of Watertown, MA, Carolyn Reckman of Watertown, MA, and Janet Reckman of Cambridge, MA. She is also survived by her three grandchildren Cory Gimperling, Jesse Gimperling and his wife Natalie, Craig Gimperling, and her great grandchild Lauren Gimperling, as well as her nieces Sue Weiss, Nancy Gottschang, and Chris Berry, and her in-laws Robert and Carleen Reckman and their sons, Robert, Richard and Mark. Born in Cincinnati on May 20, 1920, daughter of the late Theodore and Minnie Kienker Schmidt, and sister of the late Marion Fahrenbruck. Ruth was a graduate of Hughes High School in Cincinnati, and worked as a secretary with an insurance company before marrying and devoting her life to her family. As her children grew, and the family moved to New York, she went to work as a film librarian for the Syosset School District, retiring in 1985. Her years in NY were happiest when she was First Mate on the boat that she and Bill navigated up and down the Eastern Coast and the locks and canals of the St. Lawrence Seaway. Shortly after Bill passed, Ruth moved to Duxbury and continued a very active life among new friends at the Village of Duxbury. In addition to her devotion to her family, and her deep faith, Ruth was always a willing and active volunteer, from her early days as a Red Cross hospital volunteer, Scout Leader, or a Meals On Wheels volunteer, to her work well into her late 80's at The Pilgrim Church of Duxbury, Jordan Hospital, the Duxbury Thrift Shop, and the Duxbury Senior Center. Ruth received a number of awards for her volunteer work, but she will be most remembered for the many personal gestures of kindness and joy she shared throughout her life. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 9 at 1:00pm, at the Pilgrim Church in Duxbury, 404 Washington Street, Duxbury, MA. In lieu of flowers, Ruth has asked that donations be made to The Pilgrim Church Memorial Fund, PO Box 186, Duxbury, MA 02331, or to the Salvation Army chapter of your choice (www.salvationarmyusa.org). Dear Ruth's family,

I love your mother's laugh. It came easily with the generous hartiness of one who served others, loved everyone, and enjoyed life. Thank you Ruth for modeling thoughtfulness.

I am so blessed because Ruth touched my life. She was the dearest person. Every time I picked her up for our PEO meetings she always had a baked item, or a can of snacks for me. She was so loving and thoughtful. I Thank her for the memories and laughs and sharing her spirituality in coping with difficult times.. My love to her dear family. Patsy Schippers

Ruth gave me a recipe for "monkey bread" many years ago. It is now a tradition in my home on Christmas morning. I think of her every time I make it. She anchored the lobby desk on Friday mornings at Jordan Hospital for many years. She was a wonderful lady and I have missed her. My thoughts are with you.
