ANTOINETTE M. CONTI Obituary
CONTI, Antoinette M. Age 102, of Peabody, formerly of Saugus, passed away on December 19, 2018. She was born in Boston on April 1, 1916, the daughter of Andrea Oliveri and Marie (Cucinotta) Oliveri, who both immigrated from Sicily in 1908. The family lived in Chelsea on Pembroke Street. At the start of the Great Depression, she left school in the ninth grade to work at a shoe factory to provide needed income to help the family survive those tough years. The family moved to Home Street in Malden around 1940. In 1947, she married her loving husband Joseph Conti and they moved to Ferry Street in Everett. Ann was the consummate housewife and mother, providing her family with wonderfully prepared meals, a neat and tidy home and unending love and support. Mom could stretch a dollar until it snapped! She crocheted with fine detail incredible table cloths, bedspreads, table runners, pillow slips and doilies, made many Afghans that have been passed on to family members and was an accomplished seamstress, sewing most of her clothes for many years. An awesome baker, she loved to share her homemade Italian cookies and baked goods with family and friends. She was particularly famous for her Giugiuleni cookies. In 1956 the family moved to Saugus and lived there until 2014 when she and Joe moved to Brooksby Village in Peabody. During those years in Saugus, she and Joe attended dances and dinner parties at the Saugus VFW and Elks Club. Ann loved to dance! She and Joe resided in Florida for the winter months, traveled to Europe and took many ocean cruises. Ann is survived by her two sons Fred and his wife Penny of Falmouth, Maine, and Richard and his wife Kathryn of Petaluma, California, three grandchildren Brianna Conti Hodges and husband Ian, Andrew Conti and Lorenzo Conti, and her great-grandchild Jack Hodges, all of California. She is also survived by her two sisters Margaret DeMarco of Woburn, and Jenny Uglietta of Peabody. She was predeceased by her brother John and her husband Joseph who recently passed away in June, 2017. A Funeral Mass and service will be held in the spring.
