KING, Appleton "Terry" Passed away Thursday August 25, 2016 at the Speare Memorial Hospital in Plymouth, NH. He was loved by many and particularly his wife of 36 years, Nancy Preston King. Terry was filled with mischief, loved dogs, boats and sports, particularly Boston teams. His favorite place on earth was Squam Lake. Born in Milton, MA, Terry was raised in Boston, graduated from Harvard College and became a 1st Lieutenant in the Marine Corps. He raised his family in Manchester, MA, and subsequently lived in Meredith, NH, Stuart, FL, and Holderness, NH.A beloved coach and teacher at the Shore Country Day School in Beverly, MA and at the Pingree School in Hamilton, MA, Terry touched the lives of many students and athletes with his passion, energy, humor, and his motto: "no one should sit on the bench". Throughout his life, no matter where he lived, his love of tennis inspired him to organize tournaments and encourage participation in the sport he adored. A great many tennis games are forever changed by his masterful drop shot. He loved animals, especially dogs, traveling and being by or on the water. In addition to his wife Nancy, and their two dogs, Kali and Princess, he is survived by his children Lisa King, Appleton King, Lily King, Peter Ward, Lisa Ward, Preston Ward, Jamie Ward, and their spouses, 9 grandchildren, and 7 granddogs.
