Obituary Condolences

Battle, Arthur Of Chelsea, formerly of Belmont and Stuart, Florida, on July 15th. He was born and raised in Syracuse, New York, the son of Samuel and Marie (Maione) Battle (Battaglia). Beloved husband of Josephine A. (Spinale) Battle, married 67 years, they were just 2 months short of their 68th wedding anniversary. He called his JoJo, the "love of his life". Loving and devoted father of Diane Battle of New York, NY, Arthur Battle of Boston, MA, Patty Battle-Mutter and her husband George Mutter of Brookline, MA, and Joanne Collins and her husband Douglas Collins of Waxhaw, North Carolina. Loving grandfather to Hannah and Alice Mutter, Ryan and Amy Collins, and uncle to many nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his sisters, Anita Baroni, and Ida D'Amesimo, and was predeceased by his brothers, Anthony, Robert, and Edward, and sister, Elsie Salamino. US Navy veteran World War II. He was a former salesman for Interstate Container in Lowell and Allied Container in Dedham. He was known for carrying hard candies in his pockets, and doling them out to his customers. He was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Belmont for almost 50 years, and served in the Holy Name Society. He enjoyed their special projects with the Fernald School in Waltham. He spent the last few months of his life at the Chelsea Jewish Nursing Home with his wife. For the previous two years, they resided at Cohen Florence Levine Estates Assisted Living. He loved the friends he made and was known for his signature greeting, "God Bless Ya", which he used frequently. Both of these facilities are part of the Chelsea Jewish Organization. Burial was private. A funeral Mass will be held on August 20th at 9 am at St. Joseph's Church in Belmont. A remembrance luncheon will be held nearby following the mass. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations may be made to the agencies who so devotedly cared for Arthur during the last few years of his life.
