Obituary Condolences

SALVUCCI, Aurora (Rufo) Of Brighton, July 8, age 86. Beloved wife of 63 years to the late Ideale Salvucci. Beloved mother of Richard Salvucci and his soul mate Leslie Lehmann of Brighton, Victor Salvucci and his wife Ikumi of Brighton. Cherished daughter of the late Pompeo and Adeline (Perruzza) Rufo of Brighton. Loving sister of the late Liberio Rufo of Brooklyn, New York. She passed away in her home surrounded by family including her aunt and best friend, Josephine Elling of Great Barrington. Aurora was a voracious reader and lover of the arts, history, and nature. In the late 1960's she helped to create The Friends of the Brighton Branch Library and the Brighton Allston Historical Society along with other concerned Brighton residents after the gothic styled Houghton library was demolished and replaced by a "Brutalist concrete monstrosity imposed on us by the Kevin White administration" (her words). She championed equality for women and created an historical society presentation in the late 1970's of the 19th century writer Fanny Fern (born Sara Willis), one of the earliest and highest paid columnists in her day. Visiting hours from 4-7pm, July 16, Magni Funeral Home, 365 Watertown Street, NEWTON, MA 02458. A graveside service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Friends of the Brighton Branch Library, 40 Academy Hill Road, Brighton, MA 02135 or The Brighton-Allston Historical Society, Box 35163, Brighton, MA 02135.
