My gawd, I still miss him so. He kept me on the straight and narrow of everyday life when I stumbled or went off on some silly tangent.

Austin was a big part of so many positive experiences at MIT: his candor, his humor, his respect and concern for his staff and most of all his unwavering integrity. I enjoyed his teasing and his egging me on with political topics. He was one of a kind and will be missed.
Heartfelt condolences to the family.

What can I say about Austin that hasn't already been said? He was such a marvelous individual. He filled our days at MIT with laughter, but also with great wisdom, excellence and good will. He was a very special person to me and so many others. I can't tell you how much I miss him already. Stay strong in his memory.

Please accept my sincerest condolences for your loss. I only had the priviledge of getting to know Austin post-retirement upon his return to MIT, but it was obvious he was a very special man. Austin had a way of making you feel like you'd known him forever. He was so well- liked, and so well- respected. I cannot tell you how many times around the Department of Facilities I've heard people say, "I don't know where I'd be if Austin hadn't taken a chance on me..." Please know how much he will be missed and how many thoughts and prayers are being sent your way at this difficult time.
