Obituary Condolences

ANDERSON, Barbara (French) Barbara French Anderson, age 79, died on 11/15/2016 of ovarian cancer. She met this challenge with energy, optimism, and gratitude for the wonderful care she received at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute and the Brigham and Women's Hospital. She deeply appreciated her many blessings, family and loved ones in her life. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Ron Anderson and her three children and their spouses, Susan and her husband David Stevens of Napa, Calif.; David and his wife Beth Anderson of Topsfield, Mass.; and Nancy and her husband John Robertson of Seattle, Wash. She is survived by eight grandchildren: Molly and Emma Stevens; Jonathon, Joshua, Jacob and Julia Anderson; and Hannah and Graham Robertson. She is also survived by her sister Nancy French Smock and her brothers in law Douglas Smock of North Weymouth and Jack Anderson of Summit, NJ. She was predeceased by her parents Georgene and Cliff French and her brother, Don French. Barbie grew up in Newton, attended Newton Public Schools and graduated from Mount Holyoke College in 1959. Immediately following college she worked as a consultant for Arthur D. Little. In 1960, she married Ron and devoted the rest of her life to the welfare of her husband, children, family and community. Barbie always enjoyed physical activity including swimming, hiking, running, rowing, and biking. She was a 2 time World Indoor Rowing Champion in her age group. Barbie was an active volunteer in the community. In 1989, she cofounded the Wellesley Food Pantry. Over the past 27 years she helped the pantry grow from a small community service to a thriving enterprise which currently serves over 200 families. She has also been an active member of the Wellesley Congregational Church and worked as a Deacon at the time of her death. She served on the Board of Directors of YMCA Becket and Chimney Corners camps. She was a class agent for Mount Holyoke College. Barbie was a beloved friend and the world's best wife, mother and grandmother. A funeral service will be held at the Wellesley Congregational Church, 2 Central Street, Wellesley on Saturday, November 19 at 11 am.
