SELVITELLA , Barbara Anne (Heron) 71, of Bellingham, MA, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 18, 2016 at UMass Medical Center Worcester with her loving husband by her side. She is the beloved wife for 40 years of Russell P. Selvitella. Born in Indianapolis, IN, she is the daughter of the late John and Clarice (Woodward) Heron. She is the sister of Roberta Lumiere of Indianapolis, IN, Susan Jane Heron of Tampa, FL and the late David Heron, and the sister-in-law of Dennis Selvitella and his wife, Paula of Barre, MA, and Lee Ann Labon and her husband, Al of Spring Hill, FL, and her nieces and nephews. |
A resident of Bellingham since 1979, Barbara worked as the Director of Library Services at Algonquin Regional High School Northborough, MA until retiring. She also worked for the Newton Public School System, 21 years at the Foxboro Public School System, and Douglas Public School System. She was the children's librarian at the Greenfield Public Library and a professor at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst in Speech and Public Address. Barbara also served on the Massachusetts School Library Media Association, and was a past Bellingham Library Trustee. She most recently volunteered at the Bellingham Public Library.
Barbara graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Indiana University with a BA degree in English and a MA degree in Speech and Public Address, and earned an MS from Simmons College School of Library Information Science. Wildflower photography was a passion, she was a 10 year devotee of Tai Chi and enjoyed her work out at Total Fitness in Franklin. She was a member of the New England Wild Flower Society. She enjoyed reading and watching Masterpiece Theater. She loved the New Hampshire Mountains and Kennebunkport and Ogunquit, Maine. She was devoted to her Norwegian Elkhounds and her cats. Barbara will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, August 24th at 7:00 PM at Cartier's Funeral Home, 151 So. Main St., (Rte 126), BELLINGHAM, MA. Visiting hours from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM prior to service.
