1922 - 2016 Obituary Condolences
CUSICK, Barbara (Mullin) Passed away peacefully at her home on April 7, 2016. Barbara, the oldest of nine children of Hugh and Anna (Hyland) Mullin, was born in Boston on November 8, 1922. She grew up in Brookline and graduated from Girls' Latin School and Framingham State Teacher's College in 1944. Barbara taught elementary school before her marriage to Fred Cusick in 1947. For 62 years, until Fred's death in 2009, their life was centered on shared interests and devotion to each other and their family. They raised their four beloved children in Newton, Wellesley and West Barnstable. Barbara was an outstanding golfer. She loved the game and through golf she made many lifelong friends. She was a true competitor and had a natural swing, with a light touch around the greens. Barbara was a member of the Woodland Golf Club in Newton and the Hyannisport Club, where she was a three-time Women's Golf Champion. She was active in the Women's Golf Association of Massachusetts and was a gracious and generous mentor to many new golfers. Barbara was a passionate reader and loved history. She typically read five newspapers a day. She loved to paint, garden and travel with friends and family - especially to Ireland. With her simple and elegant style, she always created a welcoming home. After moving to Cape Cod in 1973, Barbara became involved in many activities. She was on the Board of the Visiting Nurse Association of Cape Cod, volunteered for the Cape Cod Cancer Consignment Exchange, and was active in the Dig and Delve Garden Club. Besides her husband, Fred, Barbara is predeceased by her beloved son Fred (Ted), sister Mary Gately and brothers Paul Mullin, Hugh Mullin and Leo Mullin. She is survived by daughters Martha Cusick of Barnstable, Sarah Cusick of Barnstable, and Mary Cusick of Brookline; daughter-in-law Lauren Cusick of Lancaster, PA and granddaughters Julia Cusick of Lancaster, PA; Marie Yearick and her husband Eli of Lancaster, PA; Katharine Cusick of Boston and great grandson Everett Yearick of Lancaster, PA. She is also survived by sisters Claire Mullin of Wellesley, Ann Mullin of Osterville, Louise Remington of Holderness, NH and brother Richard Mullin of Needham. She was a much loved Aunt Barbara to many wonderful nieces and nephews. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 14 at Our Lady of Hope Church, 1581 Main Street (Route 6A) West Barnstable. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a .
