1952 - 2016 Obituary Condolences
JACKSON, Bruce Addison 64 died peacefully at his Wayland home on November 17, 2016. Born January 22, 1952 in New Haven, CT to Alexander Brooks Jackson and Helen Vivian (Addison) Jackson. Bruce received his B.S. in biology from the University of Houston; M.S. in genetics from the University of California, Davis; M.A. in molecular and cell biology from Brandeis University; and Ph.D. in biochemistry from University of Massachusetts, Lowell. He received postdoctoral training at Boston University School of Medicine and has served as chair of the Biotechnology and Forensic DNA Science programs at MassBay Community College since 1993. Acclaimed scientist and researcher, Bruce received national and international recognition for his work including a National Science Foundation CAREER Award, a Fulbright Award and a Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics, Engineering Mentoring that was awarded to him at the White House by President Obama in 2011. In addition to his many professional accomplishments, Bruce was a devoted member of the Omega Psi Phi fraternity since 1973 and the Simon W. Robinson Lodge of Freemasons where he reached the degree of Master Mason in 2007. He is pre-deceased by his parents and six siblings. He leaves brother, John of Centreville, VA; sister, Cheryl Washington of Pensacola, FL; children, Leah J. Kean and her husband Jason and Corey Jackson; his beloved grand-daughter, Estelle Kean, and a multitude of extended family, students, colleagues and friends. A celebration of life will be held at St. Cyprian's Church, 1073 Tremont St, Roxbury on Nov. 26, 2016 at 10:00 am.
