GITTELMAN, Daniel Passed away on October 9, 2016, in Providence, Rhode Island, at the age of 92. Born in Brooklyn, New York, he was the son of the late Sophie (Unkless) and Rubin Gittelman. He fought on the front lines of WWII as a member of the Armed Forces, and was discharged honorably at the wars end. He had risen to the rank of sergeant, and had even contemplated a career with the military after receiving a scholarship to West Point. However, fate took him in another direction. He moved home to Massachusettes to help his family. He opened a small record store called The Music Box, and that eventually led him to start US Records, which grew into the largest record distribution company in the Northeast. He later merged US Records into Pickwick International, a larger distribution company and record label. He served as Vice Chairman of this public company for many years. After the sale of Pickwick he started Tara Productions, a concert production company in New York. It was at this time that he was introduced to Whitney Houston and was asked by her family to become her first personal manager. Because of his success he was able to endow many charitable organizations. He served as the president of his community synagogue for 15 years. A true philanthropist, he was able to enrich the lives of so many, often, without taking any credit. He was predeceased by his wife, Sheila (Kaufman) Gittelman and he was the brother of the late Emanuel Gittelman and Sylvia Goldberg. He is survived by his loving children Randi Biren and Steve Gittelman, his wonderful son in law, Alan Biren, and his adored grandchildren Joshua Biren and Jessica Biren. A private graveside funeral is planned. Donations in his memory can be made to The Joslin Diabetes Center, Boston MA, or a . For information and condolences:
