DANIEL J. MEANY Obituary
MEANY, Daniel J. III Of Holbrook, passed away May 12, 2016 after a long illness. Dan spent his last six months at the John Scott Nursing Home being cared for by a wonderful staff. Beloved son of Barbara A. (Kelley) Meany and the late Daniel J. Meany Jr. Devoted brother of Kevin Meany and his wife Virginia, of Avon, Thomas H. Meany and his wife Robyn, of Braintree, and Pamela Kiley and her Husband Mark, of Braintree. Dan leaves his lifelong best friend, who was like a brother to him, retired Holbrook police sergeant Mark Shanly. Also survived by loving aunts and uncles and "uncle Danny" will be sorely missed by his nieces and nephews whom he adored and took great pride in their accomplishments. Dan served our country in the US Army with the Military Police stationed in Texas. He also spent a period of time with the DEA in New York. He returned to Holbrook and served as a Special Police Officer for the Holbrook Police Department for 6 years. He went to work at the Boston Penal Department at Deer Island which was incorporated into the Suffolk County Sheriff's Department where he served with honor and distinction for over 30 years. Dan was instrumental in gaining many rights and privileges for his co-workers as a Union representative. Dan was also a legendary collector in SWAT memorabilia and was known worldwide for his connections in that world. He was a renowned writer and was published in numerous police and S.W.A.T. publications. He also has spoken worldwide to police agencies about his knowledge of terrorism. His work behind the walls gaining intelligence saved the lives of a Judge, Police Officers, and other correction officers. He touched many lives and will be missed by all who knew him. Reposing at the Cartwright Funeral Home,69 So. Franklin St. Holbrook (RT 37) until 9:45 AM Monday followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM in St. Joseph Church. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Sunday 4:00 to 8:00 PM. Burial to be Private. Should friends desire memorial contributions may be made in his name to the South Shore VNA, 30 Reservoir Park Drive, Rockland, MA 02370.
