DENISE A. MACLEAN Obituary
MacLEAN, Denise A. Age 80, of Plymouth, passed away unexpectedly at home on September 8, 2018. She was the beloved wife of Roland R. MacLean, Jr., adoring mother to Steven D. MacLean of Easthampton, and loving stepmother to Roland's older sons George A. MacLean of Gaithersburg, MD and Robert E. MacLean of Centerville. She was particularly close to her sister Sandra Smith of Hull.

Denise was born in Quincy, MA on November 26, 1937 to Denis and Jean (McNulty) Smith. She graduated from Braintree High School and attended Harvard University where she studied Russian, Chinese, and Creative Writing. She worked as a secretary and companion to Rose Kennedy of Hyannisport and Palm Beach, FL during much of the 1960's, and was serving by her side at the time of the assassination of her son, Senator Robert F. Kennedy. Later, Denise was the Registrar and Admissions Director at Northeastern School of Law. Her last formal job was as the secretary to the Chief of Radiology Emeritus at Massachusetts General Hospital before taking on the new occupation of being a full-time homemaker and attentive mother to Steven. She was a talented and accomplished artist, and was an avid reader, founding the Mayflower Book Club of Plymouth. She had a philanthropic spirit, and founded the Christ Church Episcopal Thrift Shop, which she ran for two years, taking great pride in providing services to the homeless and the less fortunate.

A period of visitation will take place on Thursday, September 20, 2018, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Cartmell Funeral Home, 150 Court Street, PLYMOUTH. A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 21, 2018, 11:00 am at the Christ Church Parish, 149 Court Street, Plymouth.
