DENISE LOUISE FRANKLIN Obituary
FRANKLIN, Denise Louise "Donna" 50 of Plymouth MA, died peacefully on Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at Beth Israel Hospital, in Plymouth. Donna was born October 6, 1965 in Chicago, IL to the late Herman Ozzie Franklin and the late Elaine Novanna (Parker) Lewis. Donna grew up in Newport, Rhode Island. She attended Newport Public Schools, graduated from St. George's School in 1983, and attended Columbia University in New York. Donna was an adventurous woman who enjoyed traveling. However, she is most fondly remembered for her gift of hospitality and her generous, compassionate nature which led her into the child care profession. She worked for JRC in Massachusetts for many years, caring for children with severe disabilities. She helped to establish Turning The Corner Group Homes in Rhode Island, where she worked with her late step-father Robert W. Lewis Jr., to develop programs to serve juveniles with behavioral problems. She was often spotted at the residential facilities teaching the young people how to cook, how to get jobs and making them her famous rolls. Donna spent the latter part of her life with the late Aldo Bartlett, the great love of her life. Together they traveled, cherished their life together, and found much joy in their grandchildren, who affectionately called her "Dee Dee". Donna will be remembered for her quick wit, her beautiful smile, her culinary prowess and her gift of hospitality that immediately made everyone feel welcomed in her presence. She is preceded in her death by her parents, Herman Franklin, Robert and Elaine Lewis, and her love Aldo Bartlett. She leaves to cherish her memory her brother, Robert Franklin, sisters, Stephanie (Timothy) Holley, Lauri (Kenneth) Johnson, Khadija Lewis (Abdul) Khan and Jamila (Sheldon) Greene. Stepchildren, Jenna (Segun) Ogundipe, Eric Bartlett, and Ryan (Paula) Bartlett, seven grandchildren, Sanya, Segun, and Sola Ogundipe, Lucas and Nora Bartlett, Anthony and Joseph Bartlett, a great granddaughter Daisy Bartlett. Her grandfather Robert W. Lewis, Sr., many aunts and uncles, many nieces and nephews and a host of cousins and friends who will dearly miss Donna. There will be a private memorial service by the family to honor and celebrate the wonderful life of Donna. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made for the continued support of the research efforts of Dr. Michael Jaklitsch in the early diagnosis and treatment of lung cancer. Donations in memory of Donna may be sent to Brigham and Women's Hospital, Development Office, 116 Huntington Avenue, 3rd floor, Boston MA, 02116 or made online at www.bwhgiving.org.
