DIANA BUCK THOENEN Obituary
THOENEN, Diana Buck Of Cambridge, 81, died on Easter Sunday in Danvers surrounded by her family. Diana was born February 16th, 1935 in Fall River, MA. She was married for 53 years to the late Gardner S. Thoenen. She studied philosophy at Mt. Holyoke College, then moved to New York City to work on Architectural Forum magazine at Time, Inc. There she met her husband Gary, a journalist at Time magazine. They married in February 1958 and moved to Rye, NY where they had three children. Diana was a hugely creative and devoted mother. Accomplished in sewing and knitting, she made many clothes for herself and her family, including beautiful sweaters and wonderful, prize-winning Halloween costumes. She led a large, long-term project at Christ's Church Rye to renew textile resources. She became an expert on church textiles and proved to be a gifted designer. She and her team of volunteers produced nearly half an acre of needlepoint, replacing worn and fragile materials with gorgeous and durable works of textile art that are still going strong 40 years later. Through the needlepoint project, Diana became involved in the lay leadership of her Episcopal parish and was one of the first women to serve on the vestry. She later formed an art consulting business, the Art Source, in which she and her partner Lois Simon helped corporate clients acquire and manage their art collections. After retirement Diana and Gary moved to Massachusetts to be close to family. Diana is survived by her brother Robert T. Buck and his wife Nicole Buck of Brooklyn, NY; by her children, Elizabeth of Belmont, David and his wife Lorette Dorreboom of the Netherlands, and Peter and his companion Amy Vanderkooi of Randolph, VT; and by her grandchildren, Hannah Williams and her husband Kyle Williams, Paul Goodman, Jonathan Thoenen and his companion Judith Klok, Benjamin Goodman, and Shepherd Thoenen; and by her great-granddaughter Karly Williams. A funeral service will be held in the Brown & Hickey Funeral Home 36 Trapelo Road BELMONT, on Wednesday, March 30th at 1:00 PM. Relatives and friends invited.
