PENNY, Donald L. Of Andover, MA, Vero Beach, FL and West Covehead, PEI, Canada passed away at home June 30th, 2016. Don was the loving husband of 67 years to his beloved wife Marjorie Coles Penny and father to Jacqueline Coles Penny and Bradford D. Penny (Linda). Donald was born on August 3. 1924 in Haddon Heights, NJ to Gregory L and Minerva G. Penny. The family moved to "The Beautiful Bronx" where Don grew up, the youngest of five children: Edward, Martin, Gordon, and Phyllis. Don served in WW2 with the Seabees in the South Pacific. In May of 2015 Don flew with fellow veterans on an Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. That celebration brought pride and pleasure. Don married Marjorie Coles, the love of his life, in 1948.They lived in Andover, Massachusetts where he was president of the Andover Racquets Club. In his younger years he was a top tennis and squash player and continued to play tennis into his 90s. He worked for Perini Corp where all the young engineers came under his training and went on to Modern Continental where they held ten of the thirteen contacts on Boston's "Big Dig", considered a major engineering feat. It was complimentary that several of his former engineers kept in touch, calling for advice and giving him a plaque dedicated to "The Hall- of-Famer." Don and Marjorie retired to Vero Beach, Florida where he was a member of the John's Island Club for 38 years. He was a member of Trinity Church in Vero. This kind and thoughtful man, adoring husband and most loving father will be greatly missed by all lucky enough to have known him. A memorial service will be held in the fall.
