EDMUND POWERS Obituary
POWERS, Edmund 84, passed peacefully Saturday, April 16, 2016, surrounded by his family. He was born in Tarrytown, NY on May 6, 1931. He was raised in Dover, N.H., the son of the late Edmund and Rose Powers. He was a graduate of UNH, and received a Master's Degree from the University of Maryland with a concentration in Microbiology. He went on to work at NASA where he was an expert in clean room procedures to ensure that space craft were microbiologically sound. From there he furthered his career in microbiology at US Army Soldier Systems Command (Natick Labs) where he worked for forty plus years with a specialty in purification of water and food safety. His work was published in many scientific journals, and he had numerous patents under his name. He won the Commander's award for Inventor of the Year for his exceptional work. He served in the U.S. Air Force at the rank of Airman First Class during the Korean War. He was stationed in Japan, where he developed a love of martial arts, eventually achieving a fifth level black belt in Karate. He is survived by his wife Anna and her two children, Jeanne and her husband Dr. Kenneth Pasch, and Dr. Steven, and his wife Hollie and their two children. He is also survived by his daughters Jennifer, her husband Arthur and their two children and his daughter Maureen. He is survived by one brother, Robert Powers and wife Graciela and several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral Mass on Monday, April 25, 2016, at 10:00 AM at St. George's Church, 75 School St., Framingham. Burial will follow at St. Stephen Cemetery, Fenwick St., Framingham. Visiting hours at the Norton Funeral Home, 53 Beech St. (corner of Union Ave.), Framingham, will be Sunday from 1 – 4 PM. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in memory of Edmund Powers to support cancer research and patient care at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O.
