ELENE "HELEN" ANTONAKOS Obituary
ANTONAKOS, Elene "Helen" Nov. 15, 1922 – June 12, 2016 Elene Antonakos passed away peacefully of natural causes at home on June 12, 2016 at 93 years old. She was the beloved wife of the late John G. Antonakos, and the devoted mother of George Antonakos and his wife Charlene of Windham, NH, and Sotirios Antonakos and his wife Sara of Andover, MA. She was the loving Yaya of Becca, Nicholas, Alex, Brandon, Cory, and Yanni Antonakos, and Great Yaya to Conor Belanger and Silas Antonakos. Elene Katsoulakos was born in Athens, Greece on November 15, 1922. After spending most of her teen years in an orphanage, Elene immigrated to Canada where she was a Nanny for a diplomat. She then came to America through Ellis Island and settled in Massachusetts where she met and married John G. Antonakos of Lowell, MA. They lived in Roxbury, Everett, and Malden where she worked many jobs over fifty years including electronics assembly, footwear production, and coffee packaging. She managed to bestow unconditional love and dedication on her family while always holding down a full time job into her late 70's. Her passions were cooking and gardening, and she excelled at both. Everyone loved Elene. She had a magnetism that drew people in. Her philosophical way of viewing life exhibited wisdom, compassion, and a strong will. She broke life down into simple concepts and stories, which she shared with everyone. When you add to that her inimitable humor, the result was one very special human being. Elene requested that her body be donated to the Anatomical Gift Program at the Tufts University School of Medicine. Based on her wishes, there will be no wake or funeral, and the immediate family will privately celebrate Elene's long and wonderful life.
