ELIZABETH HEATLEY Obituary

HEATLEY, Elizabeth Webster "Liz," age 87, of Dover and Westwood, died Friday, June 28th, in Corona Del Mar, California of heart failure. Liz was born in Dover, Massachusetts November 25, 1925 to William and Bertha Webster. Liz was the beloved sister of the late Mary Morse Ambach. Liz was married to the late Thomas Henri Heatley on June 19, 1949 at the First Baptist Church in Needham. Thomas was a decorated U.S. Army veteran of WWII who was a POW and MIA, he received 2 Purple Hearts and fought in the Battle of the Bulge and the Invasion of Normandy. Thomas was laid to rest with military honors at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne on August 5th, 1988. Liz graduated from the Katharine Gibbs School in Boston. She was a dedicated employee of Dr. John Graham and The Headache Research Foundation at the Faulkner Hospital in Jamaica Plain. After Dr. Graham's passing Liz continued her employment working for Dr. Walter Caskey and Dr. Eng-Hwi Kwa and Dr. Fine at the Faulkner Hospital for a total of 53 years. Liz touched the lives of all her doctors and patients with her kind words, quick and caring responses to their every need while always keeping her sense of humor. Liz lived with her husband Tom until his death in 1988 both in Needham and Westwood. At the age of 85 Liz retired and relocated to Corona Del Mar, California. Liz was a voracious sports fan who never missed a Red Sox, Celtics or Patriots game. Liz hung many pictures of Ted Williams throughout her Westwood home. She also belonged to the Sweet Adelines and sang baritone in the Boston Criers Barbershop Quartet who became national champions. Liz and the Criers performed at Carnegie Hall. Liz also loved ballroom dancing studying at the New England Dance Sport Academy of Brookline. In addition to being a Deaconess of the First Baptist Church in Needham, Liz was an active member of the choir. She was a member of the Sherman Library and Gardens as well as the Oasis Senior Center in Corona Del Mar, CA. Liz loved singing, dancing and playing her piano especially her "Swiss Song". She loved her work at the Faulkner Hospital especially her close interaction with her doctors and patients who she treated as her family. Liz was very grateful for her rich, full life and said many times how lucky she was to have the family and all the friends she made over the years. Liz is survived by her daughter Jane Heatley of Barnstable and her sons Thomas Heatley of Corona Del Mar, CA and Robert Heatley of Bow, NH. She predeceased her five grandchildren: Michael Richardi, Robert Richardi, John Richardi, Jacqueline Heatley and Elizabeth Heatley and her beloved cats Blackie One and Blackie Two. It's so nice to read these condolences when I'm missing my grandmother, Nana Liz. I appreciate the kind words. I had ice cream with her the night before she passed away. I told her I'd be back the next day. Unfortunately, she passed away before I got there. I struggle with it every day and it breaks my heart to think about! Love and miss you, Nana.

Liz gave me my first job during college at The Headache Research Foundation. She was always patience and kind to me as I learned about the job and the Foundation. The day before she moved to CA, I was lucky enough to see Liz on her Westwood front lawn. We had a very nice conversation. To me Liz was larger than life. Liz is someone that will never be forgotten. There was an article in the Readers Digest that was called, I think, Most Unforgetable Character. Well that was you Liz. We worked together for many years and you made me laugh every day. Now you and Isabel have sky-box seats for the Red Sox forever. I well miss you always.
