1931 - 2018 Obituary Condolences
PERCOCO, Esther Devoted Nurse Died peacefully on June 28, 2018 in Falmouth, MA, after a long illness. Born in Norwood, MA, on July 1, 1931, she was the third of seven daughters of Efthimios (James) and Sophia Sideropoulos. She graduated from Norwood High School in 1949, attended the associate's degree program for nursing at Cambridge City Hospital and became a registered nurse. In 1954, she married her husband, Louis R. Percoco. In the 1960s, Esther transitioned to psychiatric nursing, working first at Yale-New Haven Hospital, and then at Massachusetts Mental Health Center, where she was the night nursing supervisor until her retirement in the early 1990s. After her husband passed away in 1992, she took a nursing position at Vinfen's Webster House in Brookline, MA, a clubhouse providing day services for adults with mental illness. She retired permanently in 2006.

Esther worked hard all her life, holding two and sometimes three jobs at a time. She was widely loved and respected throughout the Massachusetts Mental Health System. Skilled at patient care and highly compassionate, she had a calming influence even in difficult circumstances. Amongst staff, she was a voice of authority and reason, and was often willing to speak up to superiors when few others would. Throughout her life, she was a pillar of strength for immediate and extended family, especially in medical matters.

A remarkably outgoing, vivacious, and adventurous person, Esther leaves behind countless cherished friends and relatives. She will be remembered for her determined work ethic, her mischievous sense of humor, and her strong devotion to her loved ones.

Esther was predeceased by her husband, Louis. She is survived by her son, Stephen Percoco, of Linden, NJ; her daughter, Joanne Mooney, and son-in-law, Andrew Mooney, of West Roxbury, MA; five grandchildren: Anne, Rob, Lily, Laura, and Sophia; and two great-grandchildren, Ryen and Chloe. She is also survived by her six sisters: Desi, Sodira, and Thalia Sideropoulos, Joanna Bakas, Porta Fruci, and Christina Bowles.

A celebration of her life will take place on August 12, 2018, at The Tirrell Room in Quincy, MA. RSVPs may be directed to Sophia Mooney at (617) 308-1865. In lieu of flowers, donations in remembrance of Esther Percoco can be made to Cape Cod Healthcare Foundation - Falmouth Hospital at P.O. Box 370, Hyannis, MA, 02601.
