FRANCIS J. VACCA Obituary
VACCA, Francis J. "Frank" Of Everett, Ma., Washington, D.C. and Leysin, Switzerland, passed away on May 3 at age 81. Son of the late Armando J. "Hum" and the late Rita (Robitaille) Vacca. He is survived by a brother Ronald J. and his wife Sylvia, formerly of Everett, MA. presently of Melrose, MA and a sister Valerie (Vacca) Fournier, also of Everett, MA. He leaves 7 nieces and nephews and 15 grandnieces and grandnephews. After graduating High School, Frank proudly served 4 years in the USMC before pursuing higher educaiton. A graduate of Boston College with a degree in History and Government, he had worked in sales positions from 1962 to 1968 when he joined the presidential campaign of Robert Kennedy. Following the assination of RFK, he became Administrative Assisant to Jesse Unruh, minority leader of the California Assembly from 1969 to 1970. Between 1970 and 1973 he combined study, work and travel in Europe, later serving as Administrative Assistant to Michigan Congressman Bob Traxler from 1974 to 1976. In 1976 he joined Mid-America Dairymen as Director of Governmental Relations. In 1991 he founded Vacca & Associates, a lobbying and consulting firm in Washington D.C., and continued to represent Mid-Am as well as other clients. Vacca was chairman of the Washington Caucus, a D.C. area discussion group whose members were leading lobbyist and government representatives. Vacca has also served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Naitonal Democratic Club in Washington, D.C. Rounding out his career, he was appointed by Pres. Bill Clinton to serve in the U.S. Dept of Agriculture as Assistant Secretary for Congressional Relations. He was subsequently appointed Attache for Food and Agriculture, representing the United States Mission at the United Nations Food and Agriculture Agencies in Rome, Italy. He served in this position until his retirement wereupon he resided in Switzerland. Funeral arrangements are private.
