1933 - 2016 Obituary Condolences
EDMONDS, George Phippen Jr. Passed away at his home in Osterville on June 25 from complications due to Alzheimer's. George was born in Wilmington, DE on February 6, 1933. He graduated from MIT in 1955, and entered the US Air Force, serving at the Head Quarters for Air Research and Development in Baltimore, MD. After he left the service, he earned his Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering at MIT, and was then employed at the Charles Stark Draper Laboratory in Cambridge for the next 25 years. During his time at Draper, he worked on the guidance system for the Apollo. He was an avid pilot well into his 70's, having gained his pilot's license at age 15. George also was an enthusiastic boater and sailboat racer. He is a past commodore of the Wianno Yacht Club and was Chairman of the Wianno Senior Class Association for 22 years. He was also a life trustee of the Museum of Science, and a former trustee of Brigham and Women's Hospital. George was the devoted husband of Sally Reeves Edmonds for 60 years, and the loving father of Penn & his wife Athena, Natalie Edmonds, Alden & his wife Jodi, and Holly Edmonds & her husband Andrew Pesek. He is also survived by his brother, Andrew, and 13 grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at St. Peter's Church, Osterville on July first at 11 o'clock.
