GEORGE, George S. Of Needham and Sandwich, Massachusetts, sadly and peacefully passed away embraced by his family on November 27, 2013. He was the beloved husband of the late Helen Laganas George; father of Amalie Ann George of Needham and brother of Dimitra George of Needham and formerly of Columbia, South Carolina. He was the son of Amelia and Stamati George. George cherished his six sisters-in- law.. the late Mary Laganas, Theda Triantafel and her husband George of Andover; the late Iris Sarantos and her husband, Charles of Andover; Olga and Toula Laganas, both of Lowell and Patricia Dukakis of South Natick and her late husband Arthur Dukakis. He treasured the friendship of his nephew Constantine Sarantos and his wife, Elizabeth; his niece, Anastasia Taksin and her husband, Gengiz; grandniece Alyssa and grand nephew Christopher. Born in New York, George lived his early years in Wilmington, North Carolina. He graduated from North Carolina State University earning a degree in Civil Engineering. Most of his career was spent at Metcalf and Eddy, specializing in environmental engineering. He became Chief of Specifications and later retired in 1995 as a Vice President. During his career, he was involved with many professional organizations. Dear to his heart was the Construction Specification Institute where he served as Chapter President in 1981. He was honored with two of the Institutes highest awards of Fellowship and The Institutes President Plaque His participation in the Masons and Royal Arch were rewarding to him not only in dedication but also in valued friendships. Throughout his life, he was a faithful steward of his beloved St. Demetrios Church in Weston; devoted family man who enjoyed activities with his wife, Helen and his daughter Amalie. He relished traveling, photography, tennis, woodworking, and in his later years, he enjoyed the sport of golf and its gift of relaxation.
