McLELLAN, Gerald D. Of Naples, FL, passed away peacefully on July 10, 2016 after a battle with cancer. Gerald was born on August 2, 1935 in Holyoke, MA to Christine McLellan. Jerry was a graduate of Holyoke High School in 1953 and the University of Massachusetts in 1957. He graduated from St. John's Law School in 1960 and was a member of both the New York and Massachusetts Bars. He thereafter served his country as a First Lieutenant in the United States Army. Jerry then commenced what was a long and successful legal career, initially practicing law with two prominent firms in his hometown of Holyoke. In 1972, he was appointed a Probate Judge in Hampden County, MA at the age of 36. He then was appointed to the Worcester County Probate Court, a seat he held for seven years. While a judge, Jerry taught Family Law and Trial Tactics at the Western New England Law School. In 1978, he authored The Handbook of Massachusetts Family Law, which he updated with three additional editions in his later years of private practice. In 1979, Jerry returned to the practice of law in the City of Boston, initially with Goodwin, Procter and Hoar. He later opened his own private practice which grew to a partnership of McLellan and Zack. It became one of the most reputable family law practices in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. In 1985, he authored a national publication entitled Equitable Distribution. Jerry was known as an excellent trial lawyer with a keen understanding of family law that he used zealously to represent his clients. Jerry retired from practicing law in 2005 and turned his attention to writing five fiction novels as well as an autobiography titled "Run the Cold Water". Jerry is survived by his loving and caring wife of 57 years, Jean Marion McLellan and their four children, Leslie M. Brown and her husband William of South Hadley, MA, Jeffrey D. McLellan and his wife Darcy of Woodbury, CT, Lisa M. McConnell and her husband James of Naples, FL and David G. We will all remember Jerry (Dad and Grandpa) as a man that gave everything he had to his wife and family, a man that filled his life with continuous learning and accepting challenges, never being afraid to try new things and always, ALWAYS, being there with his guidance and love.
