Gerald GILLERMAN Obituary

GILLERMAN, The Honorable Gerald Of Cambridge, Massachusetts, passed away November 15, 2011. He was 86 years old and is survived by his beloved wife Dorothy, his sister Jeanette, children David, Hope, John, and Ellen; and grandchildren, Julia, Roland, Adrian, Aaron, Sophia, and Georgina. During WWII, Gerald served in the 222nd Infantry in France, where he received the Purple Heart. He graduated from Harvard College in 1949 and Harvard Law School in 1952. He practiced law for many years in Boston and in 1990 was appointed to the Massachusetts Court of Appeals by Michael Dukakis, where he served for 12 years. Gerald is remembered by those who knew him for his love of birds, opera, and Constitutional Law; and for his devotion to human rights and world peace. He was a Trustee and on the Board of Directors at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and an active member of the Boston Bar Association and the American Law Institute. In 2000, at the invitation of then-presiding Judge Navanethem Pillay, Gerald participated in the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda in Arusha, Tanzania. A service in his memory will be held on Friday, December 2, 2011, 2:00 p.m., at the Storey Chapel at Mount Auburn Cemetery.
