GUSTAF LINDQUIST Obituary

LINDQUIST, Gustaf Berg 88, of Duxbury, Feb. 26. Born in Worcester to Dr. Gustav H. and Ruth E. (Berg) Lindquist. Graduated from North High School and Harvard College, class of 1944, where he played tuba in the band. Began career at Dewey & Almy Chemical, then US Envelope. Distinguished himself as a pioneer in the printing ink industry through the development of color matching systems, including the Lewis Roberts Matchmaster Color System and the Pantone Matching System, the world standard for color matching in printing and design. General Manager of NY Printing Ink, President of Boston Printing Ink, Vice President of Van Son Holland Ink 1979-91, then consultant on environmental affairs following his retirement. The National Association of Printing InkManufacturers(NAPIM) recognized him in 1982 with the President's Service Award, in 1983 with the Pioneer Award, and in 1992 with its highest honor, the Ault Award for meritorious service to the industry. Board member of NAPIM and 60-yr. member of the American Chemical Society. Lived in Princeton, NJ, from 1955 until moving to Duxbury in 1973. A fan of the Red Sox and Harvard sports, he supported the Harvard Band, collected Scandinavian stamps, and enjoyed researching his family's immigration from Sweden in the 1880s. Survived by wife of 62 years, Ingrid Virginia (Berglund); children Wendy, Jane, Donna, Glenn, Ann Marie; 4 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild. Memorial service at Church of St. John the Evangelist, Duxbury, Sat., April 21, 11 am. Donations to Harvard Band Foundation, att. Tom Everett, 74 Mt. Auburn St., Cambridge, MA 02138
