DELANEY, James J., II Sgt. USMC (Ret), of Needham, March 26, 2016. Beloved husband of Helen M. (Murphy) Delaney. World War II and Korean War Veteran. Retired, combat related, USMC. Participated in the Battles of Iwo Jima and Okinowa. Awarded the Presidential Unit Citation Navy Accommodation Medal and two Asiatic Combat Stars. Later wounded in combat in Korea and awarded the Purple Heart. Member of the Metrowest Marine Corps. League, Needham VFW, Post 2498, Purple Heart Association, and Past Commander of the Lt. Joseph P. Kennedy, Post 5880, Boston. Graduate of Boston College, Class of 1959. Masters in Public Administration, Northeastern College and Masters in Education Administration, Boston State College. Worked for the U.S. Postal Dept. as a supervisor for Procurement and Supply. Vice President of the National Postal Unions. General Service Administration Supervisor of the Federal Information Center. Spokesman for the Federal Government on all major TV networks. Retired from the Federal Government in 1981. Later, worked for Interface Co. in Needham, retiring in 2001. Son of the late James J. Delaney, staff reporter for the Boston American Newspaper and Margaret (Linehan) Delaney, formerly Cambridge. Nephew of the late Rita Delaney Harris , Sr. Eleanor Joseph, SND, Past Provencal of the order of the Sisters of Notre Dame; Sr. Anne Cyril, SND, Emmanuel College, Rev. Ralph B. Delaney S.J., Past Curate in Baghdad, Iraq, and Rev. Cyril Delaney S.J., Professor Emeritus, Holy Cross College. Funeral from the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 1305 Highland Ave., NEEDHAM, Wednesday, March 30th at 9 am followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Joseph's Church, Needham at 10 am. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Visiting hours Tuesday, March 29th, 4-8 pm. Interment Needham Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made, in Jim's memory, to the Metrowest Marine Corps. League, P. O.
