JANICE O'HARA Obituary

O'HARA, Janice E. Of Woonsocket, RI formerly of Wrentham and Jamaica Plain, passed away on January 20, 2016 after a long battle with cancer. Beloved daughter of the late Arthur J. and Phyllis E. (Johnson) O'Hara of Jamaica Plain. Devoted sister of Arthur O'Hara and his wife Priscilla of Salem, the late Phillip O'Hara and his surviving wife Ellin, Mark E. O'Hara and his wife Jean of Charleston, SC, Joanne O'Hara and Ed McCarthy of Medford, and Robert C. O'Hara and his wife Olga of Hampton, NH. Loving Aunt of Christine Beane, Kerri Moore, Stacy Cordell, Michael, Andrew, Lee Ann, Christopher, Ryan, Katlyn, and Jack O'Hara and Juliana Astor and Mikhail Trofimov.  Adoring niece of Doris Hastie of Scituate, Shirley Wiedemann of E. Falmouth, and Shirley Johnson of Norton. She is also survived by her cousin and best friend Cindy Warren of Norton, and her husband Glenn and many other cousins in the Johnson, Hastie and O'Hara family. Janice is survived by 2 grand-nieces and 10 grand-nephews. Sadly, she also leaves behind her very dear friends Matt Cronan, Nichole Hersey, Alan Safer and Marlene Wasserstein as well as her two pet cats she loved so well, Panda and Dustin. Janice worked for 18 years as a Franchise Supervisor at Dunkin Donuts Northeast Distribution Center where she was admired and loved by her coworkers and the many dear friends she made there. Jan was an active moderator on the Bob Dylan fan website 'Expecting Rain' for many years as well. She had a witty and fun sense of humor and carried herself with great strength and dignity while she battled her illnesses, remaining positive throughout. Per Jan's wishes, Funeral Services will be held in the Spring and will be announced by the family as the date approaches. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701. Online guestbook at pemurrayfuneral.com. P.E. Murray-F.J. Higgins George F. I am sad to learn Janice passed. Condolence to the friends and family. I met Janice in 1983. She was my neighbor in Roslindale. A wonderful person. She gave me my baby shower in 84. We lost touch a while back and life moved on. She will be missed.

You welcomed me to ER. You made me comfortable. You got me Bob tickets when I was coming to Boston to see him. You didn't have to do that, you barely knew me. I got to spend the concert with you, you were a really nice person. Thank you and Rest in peace, Janice. You will be missed and you made a difference.

Sincerest condolences to the O'Hara family for this huge loss. Jan was one of the most amazing people I've ever known! Highly intelligent, hard working, and kind beyond description. She was a pillar of the online Bob Dylan community - where her passing has created a tough void to fill.
I am sad beyond words. She has passed through heaven's door.

It has been one week and it has not gotten any easier. It is hard to believe that we will not hear your silliness and your sincere love of life and your devotion and stories of your cats. I'm sure there are people in heaven who guided her in with open arms and that
God gave her the peace of mind she so deserved. Bless you little sister, will love you always.

We met on the Dylan forum Expecting Rain in 2008 (we never met in person...how I wish we had). You welcomed me warmly to the forum, and every day I knew I had a generous, watchful, fellow Dylan fan nearby who was so intelligent and had a great sense of humor.

I will miss you so much. Like many people, it does not seem possible that you have left us.

Warmest condolences to your family,

I knew Janice online from a Bob Dylan forum where we exchanged numerous PMs (personal messages) about a multitude of subjects, from our mutual love of music to the sorrows and joys that affected our lives. She was so kind, often funny, patient and stoical - I had the sense that I actually knew her, and in leaving us I feel as if I have lost a friend. I know her life had not always been easy but she had found peace, and had overcome difficulties with the same good grace she showed to others throughout her life. She was always a source of comfort and good advice, and it was always a pleasure to talk with her. Now she has gone I will never be able to listen to the musician Richard Thompson without thinking of her, and as this will happen a lot I can gain some joy from that.

Rest in peace Janice, at the dimming of the day. You will not be forgotten my friend.

Janice O'Hara was my friend and I will miss her in my life and I know she will be missed by so many of her family and friends. I was blessed to have had her as a friend and to have shared her love of Bob Dylan and her many other varied musical interests. I went on my first Bob Dylan road trip with Jan and many others from around the US and the world because of her connection to the Expecting Rain website (
a Bob Dylan Fan Site). We had many more adventures and lots of fun at Bob Dylan concerts. We also shared an interest in Alan Jackson's music, which she further explored with other AJ fans. We shared our first AJ concert and traveled to Nashville to see him at the Ryman Auditorium and then visited Graceland in Memphis, TN. She was a true friend. May you rest in peace, with love, Suze
My deepest condolences to her family.

Janice Inspirational O'Hara
Thank you for being my dear friend. Although I miss you, I'm at peace knowing you won't suffer.
Jan, I keep thinking back to the time we stayed at Aunt Shirley's on the Cape and the attic stairs fell down in the middle of the night. I ran out of the house with ALL of my belongings while you stayed in your room with the door closed. I laugh every time I see me running out of the cottage with my pillow, the skatey eight million Dylan magazines, the dolls, etc begging you to throw me the car keys. I laugh when I see you peering out that opened window laughing at me and telling me there was no way you were walking out of that room. I laugh when I hear me respond with true fear, "You're gonna leave me here to die!" You thought it was soooooo funny. In the end it was just raccoons, however it gave me one of my favorite memories.

Awww Jan. xoxo

To Jan's family,

Rest in peace my dear role model and inspirational friend. I'll never forget your strength when everything was going wrong.

Jan is an inspiration to us all . Although I never met her face to face , I didn't have to . Her kindness and strength came shining through every message she sent . I will always remember the conversations we had about the famous nudie suits . Jan adored them along with her love for Country Music and Alan Jackson. There was just something special about her that I felt every time we spoke. One thing I will always remember about her is that she always remained positive about her condition . I will greatly miss the conversations we had Jan . Thank you for being my friend , and touching my heart in a very special way . I look forward to seeing you again in heaven , my dear friend , where we can finish our conversations about Country music .My condolences to the O'Hara family .
