1927 - 2014 Obituary Condolences
Wingfield, Janice Janice Elaine (Bennett) Wingfield, a longtime resident of Newburyport, passed away July 28 at Anna Jaques Hospital. Born in Boston March 3rd 1927, she was the daughter of the late Arthur Bennett and Geraldine (Martin) Bennett. Janice was married to William P. Wingfield, who predeceased her in 2011 after 64 years of marriage. Janice was educated in the Boston school system. Upon graduation, Janice went to work in the garment district as a seamstress. Janice and her husband moved to Newburyport in the 1950s where she worked for New England Telephone until her retirement in the late 1980s. Janice was first and foremost a family person. Her husband, children and grandchildren were always her top priority. Janice touched many with her warm smile and inviting personality. She will be greatly missed. Janice also loved to spend time with friends, often going "yard sailing" and playing games such as cards and scrabble. She loved to travel and see new places, but Las Vegas was always her favorite destination. Janice also loved sewing, occasionally making her own clothes. While Janice may be gone in body, her spirit will live in us forever. Mom taught us many lessons through the years and they will not be forgotten. She was a wonderful mother. Janice was predeceased by her son Stephen in 1973. She is survived by three sons, Michael of Portland ME, John of Amesbury and James of Newburyport with whom she shared a special relationship as primary caregiver for the last three years of her life. She also leaves behind three grandchildren Ross S. Wingfield and Lianna R. Wingfield of Amesbury and Lemanja Wells-Wingfield of Boston. She also leaves behind two sisters Geraldine Waithe of Framingham and Phyllis Bennett of Arlington. Janice also leaves behind many nephews, nieces, cousins as well as a sister in law Theresa Montello of Groton. Janice will always be in our thoughts and our prayers. Family and friends are invited to calling hours on Friday, August 8, 2014 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Twomey, LeBlanc and Conte Funeral Home, 193 High Street, NEWBURYPORT. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 9, 2014 in the Immaculate Conception Parish in Newburyport, MA.
