1927 - 2016 Obituary Condolences
BELL, Jean G. (McCouch) 89, of Concord passed away Sept. 8, 2016. Along with her late husband Gordon K. Bell, she was Concord's 2004 Honored Citizen for her volunteer service and many contributions to the community. In 2015 she was honored as one of Massachusetts' Unsung Heroines. Jean co-founded Widening Horizons in the early 1970s, Concord Prison Ministries (now Concord Prison Outreach) in 1983, and Concord's Restorative Justice Circle (now Communities for Restorative Justice or C4RJ) in 2000. C4RJ now serves 15 communities in the greater Boston area. She also served on the town's Hugh Cargill Trust Committee and the League of Women Voters Board of Directors. A dedicated member of Concord's Trinity Episcopal Church for 59 years, Jean served on its Vestry and its Social Ministry Commission, and the community's Committee for the Needy, Inter-Church Refugee Committee, and Clergy-Lay Group. Beloved, Jean was the daughter of Philadelphia's Eric and Elizabeth McCouch, and loving mother of John Bell and his wife Jil of Bristol, RI and formerly of Belmont, MA, Don Bell and his wife Betsy of Anoka, MN, and David Bell of Concord. God-mother to Meg Luther Lindholm and her husband Matthew of Fargo, ND. Grandmother to Lauren, Henry, Grace, and Maria Bell, and aunt to five nieces and two nephews. Memorial service Sat., Oct. 22, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church, 81 Elm St., Concord. Visiting hours Fri. Oct. 21, 4:30 – 6:30 at Concord Funeral Home, 74 Belknap St., CONCORD.
