SISTER JOAN ANDERSON, SND Died August 18 at age 84 in Worcester. With the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur for 66 years. Born in Cambridge, daughter of Carl C. and Helen L. Anderson. Also known in religious life for many years as Sister Helen Christine. Emmanuel College graduate, majoring in History and Education. Longtime teacher in Notre Dame schools in the greater Boston area, including South Boston, St. Patrick's School in Roxbury, and St. Catherine of Genoa School in Somerville. Attended the Calif. Jesuit Sabbatical Program in 2000, and worked with the Boston Archdiocese Foster Grandparent Program in 2001. She leaves a brother Robert Anderson and his wife Dianne of Burlington, a sister Doris Coulter of Woburn, a sister-in-law Theresa Anderson of Cambridge; 4 nieces, 3 nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews; and her sisters in religion, the Sisters of Notre Dame. Her brother Richard Anderson predeceased her. Calling hours Tuesday, August. 23, at 1 p.m. with a prayer service at 2 p.m. at the Notre Dame du Lac Chapel, 555 Plantation Street, Worcester. Funeral Mass to follow at 3 p.m. in the chapel. Burial Notre Dame du Lac Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to Sisters of Notre Dame, 351 Broadway, Everett, MA 02149.
