Joan has been a very special distant relative but alway close within our hearts. It was an honor to share the 350th Anniversary Celebration in 1988 and to pend time with such a gret lady along with the hundreds also attending. Her true spirit will always be a great part of Appleton Farms in the years ahead. May God Bless Her.

When Mrs. Appleton and her English family stayed with us, vacationing in one of our rental homes on the water on Rocky Neck, E. Gloucester, for 2-3 summers, it was such a great pleasure, getting to know her informally, and having discussions about the history of, and operation of the wonderful Appleton Farm, so generously donated by her and her family, for use by the public, in perpetuity. We will always cherish those special conversations, having had the privilege of getting to know her, and her English brother and his family. I believe their geneology includes relationships to a former MA. Governor, circa early 1800's, for whom Eagleston Sq. in central Boston, is named. We could not believe that she was still "working the farm, and the barns," well into her 90'S! A marvelous lady in every respect, forever a role model, for successive generations. A great Lady of Massachusetts.
