JOANNA CHAPLIN Obituary

CHAPLIN, Joanna Scientist, Christian, Wife Joanna Lynn Brosius Chaplin passed away on April 22nd, 2017 at the age of 30. She entered the arms of her Lord in the company of her husband; Jeremiah Joseph Chaplin, parents; John Eric Brosius and Claire Jean Brosius; brother, Samuel David Brosius; and parents-in-law, Philip Theopold Chaplin and Mary Ellen Chavez Chaplin. She had fought a long battle with cancer for nearly seven years to be able to spend as much time with her family and friends as possible. She will be remembered by them as a gentle soul who had the courage to do difficult things for others. She always had an open ear and soft word for any who needed it. Joanna graduated with Distinction from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in three and a half years with a Bachelor's of Science in Biology. She worked as an Associate Scientist at AbbVie Inc. in Worcester in the DNA sequencing laboratory. She was beginning to investigate a higher degree with a focus in epigenetics when her battle with leiomyosarcoma began. She felt most comfortable when she was working to help others and this drove her to keep working for as long as she could. Joanna's friends were as varied as her interests; from the WPI Science Fiction Society to the MIT Tech Squares square dance club to the campers at Camp Berea. They all knew her as a dedicated reader, clever gamer, and incorrigible punster when encouraged. Joanna was dedicated to her Christian faith and was an active member of several church communities. At Countryside Bible Chapel, Franklin United Methodist, and Medway Community Church you could always recognize her by her strong singing voice with which she hoped to encourage others to raise their voices in worship. Her memorial service is scheduled for 10 AM on the 3rd of June at Medway Community Church. In lieu of flowers please make a donation either to Medway Community Church or the Leiomyosarcoma Direct Research Foundation (lmsdr.org). She will be greatly missed by all whose lives she touched.

She was an amazing kid and young woman with the generous spirit and kind heart and brilliant mind she inherited from her wonderful parents. I enjoyed my games with her and her company. Good-bye, good soul.

I never met Joanna, but I was in an online book club with her where I found her to be insightful and positive. I'm sorry for her loss. My condolences to friends and family who knew her.
