JOANNA JOY "JODY" CALLAS Obituary
CALLAS, Joanna Joy "Jody" Age 61, of Boston, MA, passed away on November 16, 2018 in her home, surrounded by loved ones. Joanna was born in Newton, MA to Louis Johnson and Joyce (Stanton) Callas. She was raised in the Saint Demetrious Greek Orthodox Church in Weston, MA and attended Wellesley Senior High School, graduating in 1975. She went on to earn a Bachelor's Degree in History from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, graduating Summa Cum Laude in 1979. She was also a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Society. After graduating from college, she developed a career in freelance writing and marketing, starting with Cahners Publishing in Newton, MA, and then rising progressively as the Marketing Director, Northeast Region, for Black and Veatch Corporation of Boston, Vice President for Business Development and Marketing for El Taller Colaborativo (ETC) of Newark, New Jersey, Marketing and Business Development Manager for the PACO Group, Incorporated of New York, and Marketing Director for the architectural firm, Flansburgh Associates of Boston. Joanna also spent time as a freelance writer and as a marketing consultant for Common Sense Marketing. She is best known for her voracious intellect, quick wit, fiercely loyal friendships, and passionate love of her cats, nieces and nephews, and the Marvel Universe. Joanna is survived by her mother Joyce Callas Dempsey of Middletown, RI, her brothers, Richard Callas of Middletown, RI, John Callas of Pasadena, CA, and George Callas of Brooks, ME, and her loving nieces Caitlin and Elizabeth, and nephews Jacob and Dex. Memorial donations may be made to the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals-Angell, 350 S. Huntington Avenue, Boston, MA 02130. No Services to be held. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Amy Hahn and Jim Fahey for their constant and loving care during her illness. Joanna will remain in our hearts forever.
