Sharon and Chris...Both of you don't know me, but with sadness I saw the passing of John while scanning HC7 on the web. I was an AT on several Dets while John was piloting helos in Nam (70-71). Looking back, our smiles matched during many launches...except when the radios failed. Officers and enlisted didn't mix much, however, HC-7 was different. We were the "orphan's" of the fleet...crossdecking to relieving ships...staying out 60-90 days. HC-7 had the only Navy (Helos) Medal of Honor receipient during the War. So, John flew proudly then, and he's flying proudly now. You will always think of him when you hear the "slap" of rotors. Bless You! Don Flynn AT2 HC-7

Our thoughts and prayers are with you Aunt Sharon and Cousin Chris. Uncle John was a great man with a kind and caring heart. He would light up a room with his smile and sometimes funny jokes. We will miss him.
God Bless,

I met John as my manager at Digital Equipment in Munich, Germany. John really loved his time in Munich.
During that time, John convinced Digital to fund the completion of my MBA studies at Boston University in 1989, for which I was deeply grateful.
In recent years, we lived nearby to each other here in Massachusetts and we were able to reminisce about our good times in Germany, as well as to share our challenges with professional and family matters.
John was very courageous during his battle with prostate cancer, and he maintained a positive attitude, which was inspirational to me.
I will miss him, and my wife Monika and I extend our heartfelt condolences to Sharon, Chris and the rest of his family.
May John rest in eternal peace.

Sharon, Chris,
The relationship that John, Bob and I shared through our time in Vietnam until his passing was one that can't be described in words by me. We three connected on a special level with a bond that can only be developed in the crucible that surrounds combat. I can't recall a moment where John's faith and pure heart ever failed to support his vision and courage. I will surely miss him. I am hopeful that his character and nature will be carried forward by Chris as it will serve him well in his career. I am confident that John's 'nuggets' and wisdom are planted deep in Chris's nature. Be confident that both Bob and I will always be available if ever needed. Rich
