Obituary Condolences

O'CONNOR, John Joseph Passed Away August 4, 2018 On a sunny Saturday in August, John Joseph O'Connor passed away in peace and dignity. He was surrounded by love with wife, Carol, and his children, Timothy, Kerry and Erin at his side as he completed his hard-fought battle with cancer. John was born to parents Hnora and James in Boston, Massachusetts, with his brothers David and Thomas and sisters Maureen and Kathleen. He later moved to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, to play university hockey for the Huskies—a sport that would take him to the ice of Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, where he met and married Carol (Russett). John and Carol raised their family under the Northern Lights of Fort McMurray, Alberta. After he retired from 31 years of employment and friendships at Syncrude, John and Carol moved to Nanaimo, on Vancouver Island, a place they had grown to love as their second home—particularly John, whose passion for golf was reignited in the Island's never-ending season. John enjoyed a good joke and a long chat. His home had an open-door policy to everyone he met. He was an engaged member of his community, an MBA graduate, a doting grandparent to Benjamin and Samantha and a cherished father-in-law to Margaret, Ryan and David. John Joseph O'Connor lives on in the stories told, the laughs shared and the connections made with his many friends and the family he adored and who loved him so dearly. There will be a celebration of life on Sunday, August 12, at 1:00 p.m. at Cottonwood Golf Course in Nanaimo, British Columbia. All are welcome.
