1927 - 2015 Obituary Condolences
DAVIES, John L. Passed away peacefully on November 19, 2015 at the age of 88. He was born on March 2, 1927, the son of Elizabeth L. Davies and Raymond O. Davies of Flushing, NY. He graduated from the Cambridge School of Weston, Harvard College, and the Harvard School of Design. He was a partner for thirty-five years of J. Robert Wolf and M. Wyllis Bibbins, in an architectural firm specializing in the design of private houses, schools, and office spaces. After many years of commuting from Lexington to Cambridge, he opened an office in Lexington and continued his practice there for another two decades. He took his greatest pleasure in the houses he designed on Cape Cod, one of his favorite places in the world. A number of delighted clients became his close friends. He reveled in all salt water activities, especially sailing. He was active in Lexington town affairs, serving as a Town Meeting Member for twelve years, and as a Planning Board member for ten years. In 1952 he married Anne Gans, with whom he had a lively and loving relationship for sixty-three years. He and his wife had two children, Michael and Julia (Alejandro Uribe). He felt enormous love for his children and grandchildren, Andres and Lily. In their later years he and his wife enjoyed traveling through Europe and the Middle East, which inspired him to return to painting, one of his first loves. He was sweet, warm, and witty, cherished by his family, and loved by many. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
