JOHN (YIANNIS) PAGOUNES Obituary
PAGOUNES, John (Yiannis) Passed suddenly at a young age on September 26, 2016. He was born in Peristeri, a suburb of Athens, Greece and immigrated to the United States with his family. He attended and graduated from Tufts University with Honors. Though he had planned to go to medical school, while at college, John discovered a talent and passion for art. He spent the rest of his life deeply engaged in creating his art, and he achieved multiple awards and recognition's. John worked at several Boston-area hospitals providing translation services for patients from Greece. His philanthropic nature was evident every day, as he went above and beyond the requirements of his profession, providing off-hours comfort and assistance to countless patients as he helped them to navigate their new surroundings and to communicate with their doctors. John was a devoted brother to his sister Kaiti Galanopoulos and her husband Vasilios; and to his brother James Pagounes and his wife Joanne. He is also survived by his nieces Anastasia Galanopoulos and her husband Nikos, Helen Galanopoulos and her husband Marcel, and Angela Galanopoulos and her husband Stelios. John had a special and loving bond with all his nieces and nephews whom he loved as his own: Othon, Kimon and Iraklis Pagounes, Vassilis, Andreas and Stefanos George, Alexandra and Marina Dardati, and Yiorgos and Katerina Karaminas. He will always be remembered for his kind and generous heart and his philosophic spirit. Funeral Service on Sat., Oct. 8, 2016 at 10AM at St. Athanasius The Great Greek Orthodox Church, 4 Appleton St., Arlington, MA. Visiting hours on Friday, Oct. 7, 2016 from 4 PM to 7 PM at the church. Relatives and friends kindly invited to attend. In lieu of flowers all donations should be made to the above named church. Burial in Mt. Auburn Cemetery.
