Obituary Condolences

WEBB, John Richard 82, long time resident of Andover and part time resident of Wickford, RI, passed away August 19, 2016 at the Lawrence General Hospital. Born in Providence, RI. and raised in Cranston, RI, John was the son of the late Wesley and Marjorie (Congdon) Webb. He was a graduate of Cranston East High School, Class of 1952 and Dartmouth College, Class of 1956. While at Dartmouth, he was a member of R.O.T.C. and the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. Upon graduating from Dartmouth, John entered the United States Air Force, and honorably served his country while being stationed at San Antonio Flight School in Texas, Bartow, Florida, and finally in Bermuda where he met his wife of 57 years, Libby. John and Libby were married and lived in Bermuda where their first daughter Cheryl was born. In the early years of their marriage, John went to work for General Electric and they moved 8 times in 11 years, including Danville, IL, where their second daughter Terri was born. In 1970. The family settled in Andover where they would remain and raise their family. John retired in the late 1980's and had time to do more of the things he loved in life. First and foremost, he loved spending time with his family. He also loved going back to Bermuda, spending time on the water, golfing, and was an avid swimmer. In his earlier years, he spent summers as a life guard at Craigville Beach on the Cape, and taught swimming classes at Dartmouth College. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Elizabeth "Libby" A. (Davis) Webb of Andover and Bermuda, daughters Cheryl Wilson and husband Bradley of Wakefield, RI and Terri Petzold and James McDonough of Andover, MA, as well as 4 grandchildren; Robert C. Wilson and fiancée Kelly Quaranta, Christina Wilson, Tiffany Petzold and Courtney (Petzold) Selima and husband David. John is survived by a great granddaughter Avery Wilson, a sister-in-law Marni McAllister of VA and Bermuda and several beloved nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his sister Sabra Orton. Family and friends may call on Thursday, Aug 25, 2016 from 4 to 7 pm at the Conte Funeral Home, 28 Florence Street, ANDOVER, MA 01810.
