SVELNIS, Joseph C. 87, of Needham, December 3, 2012. Beloved husband for 64 years of Aldona R. (Kukauskas) Svelnis of Needham. Loving father of Bob and his wife Luann Svelnis of Grafton, Kathy Marchetto of Palmyra, PA, Marty and his wife Lisbeth Svelnis of Nashua NH and Regina Svelnis- Dapsys and her husband Victor Dapsys of Whitman. Brother of Alfred Svelnis of Norwell and Nellie Pezwick of Norwood and the late Vincent, Frank, John and Larry Svelnis. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Funeral from the Eaton Funeral Home 1351 Highland Ave NEEDHAM on Friday, December 7th at 10:30 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Joseph Church at 11:30 AM. Relatives and friends kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours on Thursday from 4-7 PM. Interment Private. In lieu of flowers donations in Joseph's name may be made to Dana Farber Cancer Institute, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284-9168. US Army World War II Veteran. Spent entire working career as a baker, owning Ruth's Bakery in Newton, Centre Pastry in West Roxbury/Roslindale and Avenue Bakery in Dorchester. Owner of Soap Opera Laundromat in West Roxbury/Roslindale. Past President of the MA Retail Bakers Association, member of the Lithuanian Citizens Club, Musketeers, Knights of Lithuania and the Boylston Shul Verein German Club in Walpole.
