JUDITH ANN METZLER Obituary
METZLER, Judith Ann (Parana) Age 69, passed away peacefully at the Kaplan Family Hospice House on October 19, 2016, a day after the birth of her first grandchild, Miles August Metzler. Born in Buffalo, NY to Elizabeth and Joseph Parana, she was married to Michael Metzler, also from Buffalo, for 47 years. Judy graduated from Bishop O'Hara High School and then from the University of Buffalo where she received a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work. She later attended the Social work Program at the MGH Institute of Health Professions. As a practicing Social Worker in her early career she worked at the Massachusetts Society for Cruelty to Children (MSPCC) where she was renowned for attending to the needs of many families and their children on the Northshore. Later she served as the Social worker at Newfield House Nursing Home in Plymouth being a shining light to the residents and their families, and to the wonderful staff. She was recognized by everyone for her perennial smile and unselfish way of putting the cares and worries of others ahead of her own. Judy was a Mom to all her children's friends and everybody's personal Social Worker. Her favorite room was the kitchen and all knew her for talents in gourmet cooking. She was a founding member of the Plymouth Gourmet Club. An avid reader, she enjoyed meeting monthly with her book club in Dartmouth. All knew Judy for her inner and outer beauty enhanced so well by her smile. Many would compliment her for her style in clothing and jewelry. She would light up a room with her always-positive conversations and stories. She and her husband, Mike, were together hand-in-hand at many community events. Besides her husband, she is survived by her children: David Metzler, his wife, Anne Marie and their son, Miles August of Los Angeles, CA, and Maureen Metzler Norman and her husband, Bryan Norman, of Quincy, MA. She had 5 brothers and sisters all living in the Buffalo, NY area: Joseph Parana and his partner, Teresa Fundalinski; Peter Parana and his partner, Patricia Pierce; Thomas Parana and his wife, Barbara; Catherine Parana Baczynski and her late husband, Stephan; Mary Parana Kohl and her husband Kenneth. Many nieces and nephews also survive her. Visitation hours will be held from 4 PM to 8 PM on Monday, October 24, 2016 at the Waring-Sullivan Home of Memorial Tribute at Dartmouth, 230 Russells Mill Road, S. DARTMOUTH, MA.
