Julien LaCourse Obituary

70, Died March 22,2007 at the University of Rochester Medical Center in New York. He was born, raised and educated in Lowell, MA. He was one of 16 children born to the late Alfred and Flora (Marion) Lacourse. While at Lowell High School, Julien lettered in 4 sports. His proudest high school accomplishment was leading the football team to four undefeated seasons as the team's quarterback, under coach and mentor Ray Riddick. In 1954, Mr. Lacourse began his career with Demoulas. He started as a delivery clerk in the original Lowell Demoulas store and worked his way to Executive Vice President, the position that he currently held. Mr. Lacourse was an active member of St. Augustine's Parish in Andover for the past 38 years. He volunteered his time in many capacities, and was a member of the most recent Formation Center Capital Campaign Committee. Julien enjoyed traveling with his wife around the world. He treasured time spent with his family, including summers on Nantucket. In 1964, Julien had a private audience with Pope Paul. He was a licensed pilot and even had time logged in the Concorde. He was a Director of the LANAM Club, Director of the New Heritage Bank, Past President of the Lowell Boys and Girls Club, and a Trustee of Merrimack College. He is survived by his devoted wife of 47 years, Anne T. (Carter) Lacourse; three sons and their wives, James and Lisa Lacourse of North Andover, Timothy and Kelly Lacourse of North Andover, Stephen and Lisa Lacourse of Andover; a daughter Catherine and Charles Thompson of Andover. He has two brothers George of North Chelmsford, Donald of Franklin, and five sisters, Cecile Lacourse of Dunstable, Alice Parent of Hudson, NH, Flora Tanguay of Boise, Idaho, Pauline Lacourse of Hampton Beach, NH, Claudette Vincent of Dunstable; 12 grandchildren and 1 great grandson and many nieces and nephews. Family and friends may call on Monday from 3-8 PM at the Dewhirst and Conte Funeral Home, 28 Florence St. in ANDOVER, MA. The Funeral Mass will be at St. Augustine's Church, Essex St. Andover MA on Tuesday at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow in West Parish Cemetery. In lieu of flours, memorial contributions in Mr. Lacourse's name may be made to the Julien J. Lacourse Scholarship Fund c/o 76 Poore Street, Andover, MA 01210.
