Kurt Ward Obituary

WARD, Kurt Age 34, died Tuesday, July 13th, 2010 after an accident while working on trains he loved so much. He was a graduate of Weston High School and Salem State College. While in high school he achieved the highest honor of Eagle Scout and was a state champion breast stroke swimmer. Throughout his life he was active in various community theaters and an avid model train enthusiast. In recent years he began practicing change bell ringing with a group of bell ringers. He is survived by his loving mother, Lee Ward; father, Roy Ward; brother, Keith; sister-in-law, Laurie; nephew and extended family, friends and railroad colleagues. A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 17th, at 2pm at St. Peter's Church, 320 Boston Post Rd, Weston, MA with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers we ask that a donation be made to the Mt. Washington Valley Theater, PO Box 265, North Conway, NH 03860 in memory of Kurt.

Kurt i miss u SO much, that every memory makes me cry! We had our ups/downs a lot. I use to hear from you on a weekly basis, then when i didn't hear back from you the last 2 wks i started to worry!! I wish i would have seen you MORE before your passing, but work took up 90% of your time. You were so dedicated to that dangerous job, i was always concerned about you. Everytime you walked through that door when you got home, i was glad you made it safe. We lived together for a yr, a few yrs back. I'm gonna miss your blue eyes, your laugh, how we made fun of each other like kids do!! Our trips to Boston, you sure knew how to city drive!! You so deserved a BIG vacation from work, and i wanted to be there w/you. Why did you have to go so young???

I was very sorry to hear of Kurt's passing. While I never knew him very well, I remember the time we spent on the WHS swim team together. He was an amazing swimmer...I'll always remember his beautiful and graceful breaststroke, his kind words, and the big grin he was never without. Rest in peace, Kurt. My thoughts and prayers go out to the Ward family.

Though I did not know him personally, I remember Kurt working here in Connecticut. Whenever the train would pass through my neighborhood and he was working, he always offered a smile and a friendly wave. There was always a proud look on his face when he was coasting by on the locomotive. He truly seemed to enjoy his job. Even from my distant point of view, the world will not be the same without him.

My thoughts and prayers are with all those who knew and loved him- I am so sorry for your loss.

Dear Lee,
I was so shocked and saddened to hear of Kurt's passing. I remember him as a young boy with Ben in Cub Scouts and the great times they had!
I know he will be sorely missed by his family and all his friends.
Know, dear Lee, that he will always be with you and do not hesitate to talk about him to others. I like to think he and Ben are now together, reminiscing and hearing each other's latest news.
Love to all your family,
Anne Sandalls

We rang a quarter peal of Saint Martin's Doubles at The Church of Saint Martin's in the Fields in Philadelphia today in Kurt's memory. I only just met him at Groton last weekend and am very saddened to hear about his tragic death. Four of the ringers in the quarter peal met Kurt last weekend too. Sorry, I wish you had more time to ring and could have visited Philadelphia.

Dear Lee,
I just heard about Kurt's passing. I am deeply shocked and saddened. It brought back all the memories of the times we worked together at Mount Washington Valley Theater. Kurt was a wonderful guy and we had good times together. The last time I saw him, he was so happy to be working on the trains. He will be greatly missed. Please know that both you and he are in my thoughts and prayers.

Lee, Keith and Laura,

My heart aches over the loss of Kurt. He was a welcome visitor to our home where, through his laughter, his happiness usually arrived 5 minutes before he did. At the dinner table I enjoyed listening to his dissertations about stage lighting and how easy it was to create, construct and carry out. His talents and creativity were endless.

I admired Kurt very much for how he approached, and overcame life's challenges. His accomplishments speak volumes to that.

My thoughts and prayers have been you, Lee, since I first heard of Kurt's passing, and they shall remain with you for quite some time.

May all the stars of the universe become your stage lights, my friend. Rest in peace, Kurt, rest in peace.

I was saddened to hear about the tragic loss of our classmate (WHS '95) Kurt. I remember him saving our "senior show" when the lights went out right before it was about to start. And who can forget that laugh? I can still hear it from the other end of the hall. God bless the Ward family, my thoughts and prayers are with you.

Lee, Keith, Laurie, I have fond memories of Kurt ringing the bell and lighting the scenes at St. Peter's --and running along beside, ahead, behind, to the side, to the river, as we adults trudged along on the Walk for Hunger -- may he ring the bells and light up the railroad yards in Heaven. Love and Peace to you.

Lee, Keith and Laurie - No words can comfort you in this incredible loss. My memories of time spent with Kurt (and all of you as well) are comforting - will never forget Kurt as a small child running around 62 Lexington Street with his "jug" in one hand and his train in the other. He always had a big smile and a hug for everyone - he will be sorely missed. Sending lots of love and support from afar. Love, Lynne
