LEVIS, Laura Beth 34, of Somerville and formerly of New York City, on September 22. A young, vibrant, funny, extremely beautiful and talented woman, Laura loved her friends, animals, hip food, good drink, scary movies, chilling out to favorite television shows, entertainment news, best-selling books, laughter, travel, cooking paleo recipes, lifting weights (and showing off her crazy biceps), writing and editing for Harvard Magazine and the Harvard Gazette, where she worked the past 5 years, hiking, darts, fitness blogs, the color purple, apple picking, manicures and pedicures and shopping, the Yankees, girls' nights, making funny faces, hot yoga, the Avett Brothers band, her iPhone and Instagram, drawing, Davis Square, cold brew coffee, her late grandmother, Mary Jo Barnett, who so inspired her, the Isle of Skye in Scotland, and most of all, her family, including her parents, Dr. William and Georgia Levis of Manhattan, whom she spoke and joked with daily, and her husband and best friend, Peter Domenic DeMarco, whom she married overlooking the ocean in Bar Harbor on August 16, 2014, in a storybook wedding. Born on January 2, 1982, Laura was raised on Staten Island, where she starred in girls basketball. She graduated from Poly Prep Country Day School in Brooklyn in 2000 and Emerson College in 2004, acting as editor in chief of "The Berkeley Beacon" school newspaper. Her career began at the Boston Globe, where she met Pete, a reporter, in the newsroom. She was the favorite kid sister of half-brothers William Levis of Manhattan and Robert Levis of Colorado Springs, and niece to Bob Levis of Manhattan. She was the proud daughter-in-law of Samuel and Nancy DeMarco of Lynnfield. She was Aunt Laura to Jessica Levis and her siblings Katie, Summer, and Kyle of Colorado Springs, as well as Amber and Wyatt Levis of Manhattan, and Samantha, Alex and Patrick Marcoux of Brentwood, NH. And she was a great cat mommy to Cola, Puma and Evie. Stephanie Fox, Meredith Ireland, and Melissa Kaplan were her bridesmaids and BFFs, along with Gill Davidson, Michelle Spadaro and Molly Allard. A celebration of her life will be held in the future; no funeral is planned. Lastly, Laura was an organ donor, including her wonderful heart. Charitable donations can be sent to the MSPCA of Boston, where she adopted her cats, and the Cambridge Women's Center, where she volunteered, or to the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America. Laura died due to a severe asthma attack, and would wish for anyone who has that disease to learn about every possible risk. See www.mcdonaldfs.com for a guestbook and memorial service updates, as well as loved ones' Facebook pages. She will be missed forever.
