GILLIS, Lawrence A. Died peacefully October 10, 2016. He was 93 years old. Larry was raised in Dorchester with his 2 brothers and 7 sisters. He was a proud veteran of W.W. II serving in the Army where he served with the 49th Infantry Battalion, 8th Armored Division of the 3rd Army in Europe. Larry fought in the Battle of the Bulge and was awarded the Bronze Star for Meritorious Service. After the war Larry settled in Canton with the love of his life Ruth C. (Eivers) for 63 years. He worked for Greyhound Bus Lines for 35 years and as a dispatcher for the Plainville Police Department for 13 years, a job he always described as a "Gift from God". Beloved husband of the late Ruth C. Gillis who died on July 11, 1996 and who Larry has missed every day since. Loving father of James L. Gillis and his wife Jeanne of Franklin, John J. Gillis and his wife Deborah of Merrimack N.H., and Susan P. Falasca and her husband Harry of Canton. He is also survived by his sister Joan Keenan of Weymouth and his brother Herbert Gillis of Canton. Loving grandfather of 5 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Visiting hours in the Pushard Family Funeral Home, 210 Sherman St. , CANTON, Wednesday, October 12, from 6-8 PM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 Thursday in St. John the Evangelist Church, 700 Washington St., Canton. Interment Knollwood Memorial Park. Larry lived a long and happy life and looked forward to re-joining his beloved wife Ruth. His family takes comfort in knowing that they are together again.
