Leon Nigrosh Obituary

67, died on February 6, 2008 at Hampshire Care in Northampton, MA. He was born in Cambridge on August 7, 1940 and he spent his childhood in Belmont, MA. He graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design and earned an MFA at the School for American Craftsmen at the Rochester Institute of Technology. His life was dedicated to ceramic design and he was a passionate teacher of ceramics, photography, and drawing. His publications include the acclaimed and widely used ceramics textbooks: "Lowfire", "Claywork", and "Sculpting Clay". He was a regular contributor of art reviews for Worcester Magazine, The Worcester Phoenix, The Pulse (Worcester), Art New England, and Artscope Magazine. He is survived by his daughter, Maya Nigrosh, of Madison, WI; his mother, Frances Nigrosh, of Longmeadow, MA; his brother, Barry Nigrosh, of Northampton, MA; and his artwork. His father, Israel Nigrosh, an architect, died in 1982. A Memorial Service will be held at the Higgins Armory Museum auditorium, 100 Barber Ave., Worcester, MA, on Monday, February 18, 2008 at 4:00 PM. Donations in his memory may be made to the Worcester Center for Crafts or to the arts organization of the donor's choice.
