NELSON, Margaret Hammond Passed away at the age of 69 on May 21 at the Stonebridge Community in Montgomery, New Jersey, surrounded by the love of her family.|
Margaret was born on January 6, 1947, in Worcester, Massachusetts, to Margaret Webster and Robert Hammond. Margaret attended Simmons College (formerly Garland Junior College) in Boston, MA. She married S. James Nelson Jr. of Minneapolis, MN, in 1967, and moved with him to the Lake Harriet area of Minneapolis shortly thereafter to begin and raise her family. She eventually found a successful career in real estate before retiring to her beloved North Chatham, MA.
Margaret devoted her life to raising her four children. She loved the beach, Cape Cod, portraiture photography, long walks, dogs, gardening and spending time with her six grandchildren. She found great joy in being a grandmother and took every opportunity to spoil her grandchildren and find clever ways to make them laugh. Margaret's smile and joyful attitude were infectious; she turned heads in every room she entered.
Margaret Nelson was preceded in death by her father, Robert Lee Hammond, and mother Margaret Webster. She is survived by her children, Christian Nelson of Los Angeles, CA; Erik Nelson of Chicago, IL; Gretchen Lainez and son in law, Marco Lainez of Montgomery, NJ; Scott Nelson of Boston, MA; sister Martha Kerr of Portland, OR; sister Louisa Garrison (Bink Garrison) of Boston, MA; brother David Hammond (Susan Hammond) of Medfield, MA; former husband Jim Nelson of Big Horn, WY; and her grandchildren, Isabella, Marco and Nicola (of Gretchen Lainez) and Foster, Hollis and Thomas (of Scott Nelson). Services are private.
