Gowdy, Marion
A long-time resident of Winchester, MA and Madison, NH passed away on February 7, 2013 at Sunny Acres Nursing Home in Chelmsford, MA. She was the beloved wife of the late George H. Gowdy who died in 1979. She was born in Philadelphia, PA on July 29, 1912 and was a daughter of the late Dr Heber W. and Clara (Eastman) Youngken. Marion was a graduate of Arlington High School and received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Simmons College in Boston. She enjoyed volunteering with the En Ka Society in Winchester, the community hospitals and other community groups. She was an active member of the First Congregational Church in Winchester. Marion loved traveling and playing bridge. She enjoyed many years at their second home in Madison, NH. Marion is survived by a son Robert E. Gowdy and his wife Cheryl of Scituate and a daughter Constance G. Smith and her husband John of Chelmsford, 7 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She was the mother of the late G. Douglas Gowdy who died in 2007 and his wife, the late Jane Potter Gowdy. At her request, calling hours have been omitted. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 23 at 11:00 AM at the Central Congregational Church, One Worthen St., Chelmsford. Private interment in Wildwood Cemetery, Winchester, MA at a later date. Memorial contributions can be made to the Central Congregational Church in Chelmsford, the First Congregational Church in Winchester or the En Ka Society, 1037 Main Street, Winchester, MA 01890.
