MORRISSEY, Mary A. (Higgins) 87, a resident of Falmouth for over forty years, died at her home on Saturday, June 9, 2018 surrounded by family. She was the widow of Robert B. Morrissey whom she was married to for nearly sixty years. She leaves her children, Kathleen Hayes of Falmouth and husband Joseph, Carol Smyth of Fairfield, CA and husband Steven, and Patricia Peal of Falmouth and her husband Richard. She was the oldest of seven children born to James E. Higgins and Mary E. (Coughlan) Higgins. She is survived by James E. Higgins, Jr. and his wife Janet of Hyde Park, and Patricia (Higgins) Monahan of Holliston. She was preceded in death by her sister Evelyn Higgins, brothers Richard Higgins, Francis Higgins and John Higgins. She was the loving grandmother to Kelly Hayes, Karen Perrault, Alycia Doshi, Brian Hayes, Cristy Smyth and Ethan Peal. Mary was Nana Cookies to her six great-grandchildren, Matthew, Andrew, Jacob, Amelia, Clara and Charlotte. Mary and Bob brought up their three daughters in Brockton and summered in Falmouth. She spent over twenty five years at the telephone company and when she retired became a Pioneer enjoying many lunches with fellow Ma Bell retirees every year in Hyannis. After raising her girls, she and Bob moved to East Falmouth and spent their winters in Fort Myers where Mary became the official #1 Red Sox fan among her many sec 204 friends at Jet Blue Park. The Red Sox brought Mary much joy throughout her lifetime. Mary enjoyed being a docent at the Heritage Plantation in Sandwich for many summers until she started a new career in retail by running a bridal shop across from the Stop & Shop in Falmouth where she helped many brides prepare for their big day. Mary became a devoted member of St. Patrick's church and sang in the choir for many years. She was a cleaning angel and participated in many fundraisers and events. She enjoyed her many social activities including the Falmouth Hospital Auxiliary, ushering at the Cape Playhouse, her weekly card game and luncheons with her many friends. She was very proud to be involved with the Chamber of Commerce where she once won the annual raffle for $1,000. Mary went on to work at Caline's of Falmouth for over twenty-five years with a wonderful group of women whom she loved dearly. She was at her post up until this past May overseeing the wall of Caline Kids, where many pictures of her beloved grand and great-grandchildren hang proudly.
